The Oyo State chapter of the APC has expressed outrage over the abduction of Busayo Adelabu John-Paul, the younger sister of former Minister of Power, Bayo Adelabu, along with her twin sons in Ibadan.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the party’s spokesperson, Olawale Sadare, described the incident as alarming and urged Governor Seyi Makinde to strengthen collaboration with security agencies and other stakeholders to address the worsening security situation in the state.
The APC noted that the kidnapping occurred amid growing concerns over several unresolved abduction cases, including those involving schoolchildren, teachers, and staff members of the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria.
Busayo and her 12-year-old sons were reportedly seized by armed men at Elewura-Challenge in Ibadan after the attackers allegedly followed their vehicle before intercepting them.
While the police have launched an investigation into the incident, the APC called for urgent action to secure the release of all victims currently in captivity.
Sadare said, “We use this medium to appeal to the relevant authorities at the Federal, State and Local Government levels to take a critical look at the security architecture of Oyo with a view to tightening all the loose ends and ensure maximum protection of lives and property of the citizens regardless of their background, economic or socio-political status.
“We demand immediate rescue of all Oriire school abductees, two CRIN staff, Mrs Busayo John-Paul and her children as well as others who are in captivity at the moment while we also call for concerted efforts from the governments (particularly Governor Makinde) and security agencies to arrest the ugly trend of kidnappings and violent attacks against residents of the state.
“No citizen deserves to live in perpetual fear and anxiety as is the situation with the residents of Oyo at the moment and it is on this premise that we call on Governor Makinde to come down from his high horse and seek help where necessary so that the situation does not degenerate further. As it stands, nobody is safe anywhere in the state and it has never been this bad.”
The party also recalled previous kidnapping incidents in the state, including the abduction of dozens of students and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area and the kidnapping of APC chieftain Wale Oriade in Ibadan, warning that insecurity has become a major concern for residents.
