Gospel singer, Yinka Alaseyori breaks silence after backlashes over comments on Oyo school kidnapping
Following criticism from members of the public, gospel musician Yinka Alaseyori has publicly apologised for her comments about the recent kidnapping of pupils and teachers in Oyo State.
The singer, in a video shared online, said she never intended to offend anyone or make light of the suffering of the victims and their families. She explained that her earlier message was misunderstood by some Nigerians, prompting her to address the concerns raised against her.
“I did a video two days ago about the kidnapped children, touching on government, parastatals and every agency. But when I woke up yesterday, I found out that some well-meaning Nigerians were not happy about it, as I made them feel their voices are unheard,” she said.
Expressing regret over the controversy, Alaseyori appealed for understanding from parents and other Nigerians who felt hurt by her remarks.
“You know me too well that I would never make you feel like that. Mothers, do not be offended. I am sorry. I beg in God’s name. Please, forgive me. I would never think like that. Pardon and forgive me,” she added.
The backlash stemmed from an earlier video where she encouraged continued prayers over the country’s security challenges and acknowledged efforts by the government to secure the release of the abducted victims.
However, many social media users argued that prayer alone was not enough and called for stronger action from authorities to tackle the growing insecurity and ensure the safe return of those kidnapped.
The incident in Oriire Local Government Area has continued to spark nationwide concern, with increasing calls for urgent rescue efforts and improved protection for schools and communities.
