Oyo Abduction: “Reckless, insensitive, politically dangerous,” South-West PDP blasts Fayose over attacks on Makinde
The South-West chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, over his claim that the recent bandit attack in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State may have been orchestrated to discredit Governor Seyi Makinde and President Bola Tinubu.
Describing the allegation as “reckless, insensitive and politically dangerous,” the party said the remarks were “not only irresponsible and provocative, but also expose Fayose’s glaring double standards on insecurity, political morality and public accountability.”
In a statement by the South-West PDP Publicity Secretary, Chief Sanya Atofarati, titled ‘Fayse’s hypocrisy exposed’, the party said it was wrong for a former governor to make such accusations at a time when many Nigerians are still dealing with insecurity challenges.
He noted that it was unfortunate for anyone to turn a national security issue into political speculation, especially when lives have been lost and others remain at risk.
Fayose had earlier suggested in a television interview that the Oyo State Government might have been linked to the abductions in the state as part of a political plot against the President.
The South-West PDP, however, rejected the allegation, urging Nigerians to avoid politicising insecurity and to support ongoing efforts to address security challenges.
It also expressed support for Governor Makinde, commending his handling of the situation and his commitment to protecting lives and property in the state.
The party accused Fayose of inconsistency, alleging that he has been silent on similar security incidents in his home state of Ekiti while taking a more vocal stance in Oyo.
It further claimed that he has been involved in political activities that contradict his public criticism, raising questions about his political alignment and motivations.
The statement also criticised what it described as selective outrage, arguing that Fayose’s comments were driven more by political interest than genuine concern for victims of insecurity.
The South-West PDP called on respected party leader Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola to intervene and advise Fayose to act in the interest of unity within the party.
It added that political leaders should focus on strengthening institutions and supporting security efforts rather than making statements that could inflame tensions.
