Police arrest three suspected cultists, recover firearms, charms in Osun

The Osun State Police Command has arrested three suspected cultists and political thugs in separate operations across the state, recovering firearms, ammunition, charms and other dangerous weapons.

The arrests were announced in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan.

The suspects were identified as Adekola Olayinka Abdulazeez, 27; Omolara Ezekiel, 28; and Babatunde Azeez, 32.

Recovered items included three English Beretta pistols, one live round of ammunition, a cut-to-size gun, two live cartridges, four cutlasses, three axes and assorted charms.

According to the police, Adekola was arrested on May 22, 2026, at about 10:00 a.m. by a patrol team attached to the Ikirun Area Command during a routine stop-and-search operation.

“On 22nd of May 2026 at about 1000hrs Police patrol team attached to Ikirun area command while on daily routine stop and search/patrol, one Adeyinka Adekola ‘m’ 27yrs of age was intercepted on an unregistered motorcycle, search was conducted on him, during search, two English bereta pistols, one axe and charms were recovered from him,” the statement said.

The case was later transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), where detectives launched further investigations.

Police said the suspect confessed to being a member of the Eiye Confraternity and revealed that he was on his way to deliver the weapons to another member before his arrest.

“The team of detective swung into action and upon thorough investigation, Adekola Olayinka ‘m’ 27yrs confessed to be a member of Eiye confraternity and that he wanted to deliver the arms and ammunition to one of their members name Omolara Ezekiel ‘m’ before his arrest,” the statement added.

Further intelligence-led operations led to the arrest of Omolara Ezekiel and Babatunde Azeez.

During the operation, officers recovered an additional Beretta pistol loaded with one live round of ammunition and a cut-to-size firearm. Searches conducted at the suspects’ residences also led to the recovery of more weapons, including cutlasses, axes and live cartridges.

Police said investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest other suspected members linked to the group.

The Commissioner of Police warned political thugs, cultists and other criminal elements against activities capable of threatening peace and security in the state.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Gotan, mnips is using this medium to issue stern warning to Political thugs, miscreants and individuals who may be contemplating on any act capable of disturbing the peace of the State as he reiterates his pledge to continue collaborating with relevant critical stakeholders in the state to root out all criminal elements in the State.”
