Co-hosts Canada secured their first-ever FIFA World Cup point after battling to a 1-1 draw with Bosnia and Herzegovina in their opening Group Stage match of the 2026 tournament.

Before this year’s competition, Canada had appeared at the World Cup only twice—in 1986 and 2022—losing all six matches played across both tournaments. During those campaigns, they conceded 12 goals and scored just twice.

Playing in front of home supporters as one of the hosts of the expanded 2026 World Cup, Canada fell behind early against Bosnia and Herzegovina but fought back through a goal from Cyle Larin.

The equaliser ensured a 1-1 draw and marked a historic milestone for Canada, earning the nation its first point in FIFA World Cup history.
