Former Head of State General Yakubu Gowon on Saturday urged Nigerians to remain united and respect one another regardless of religious and ethnic differences.

He made the appeal during the public presentation of three books in honour of General Abdulsalami Abubakar as part of activities marking his 84th birthday, under the theme, “The Legacy of a Statesman @ 84.”

Chairing the event, General Gowon emphasised the importance of dignity in labour and the ideals of peace, democracy, and good governance.

He encouraged young people to draw inspiration from Gen. Abubakar’s patriotism, commitment to justice, and dedication to national unity.

The former Head of State noted that his admiration for the celebrant influenced his decision to accept the invitation to chair the event.

Gowon also described General Abubakar as a respected and highly credible mediator who is widely sought after.
