Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has urged members of the 2026 Batch B Stream I National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) deployed to the state to remain apolitical ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
The governor gave the charge on Monday while declaring open the orientation course at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Ede, stressing the need for neutrality and professionalism, particularly for corps members who may participate in the electoral process.
Represented by the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Moruf Adeleke, the governor reminded the corps members of their responsibility to uphold the credibility of the election.
“I urge you, as corps members, to remain apolitical and professional in the discharge of your electoral duties.
“Do not allow the credibility of our electoral process to be marred by your actions. The state is looking up to you to help ensure the integrity of the election.
“I implore you to shun all forms of undue influence and uphold the ideals and regulations of both the NYSC scheme and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC),” he said.
Adeleke also advised the corps members to obey camp rules and regulations to fully benefit from the orientation programme.
He assured them of his administration’s commitment to their welfare and security, urging them to carry out their responsibilities with patriotism, humility and dedication to national development.
Earlier, the Osun NYSC Coordinator, Ekeng Kubiangha, commended the state government for its continued support of the scheme.
Kubiangha disclosed that 3,000 corps members were deployed to Osun State, comprising 1,600 females and 1,400 males.
He also emphasised the importance of integrity in the electoral process and warned corps members against inducement or external pressure.
“As corps members who may be called upon to participate in the electoral process, I urge you to remain apolitical, impartial and professional in the discharge of your responsibilities.
“Do not allow yourselves to be influenced by any form of inducement or undue pressure. Adhere strictly to INEC guidelines. By doing so, you will contribute meaningfully to the conduct of a peaceful, free, fair and credible election,” he said.
The coordinator further encouraged the corps members to embrace Nigeria’s diversity by building friendships across ethnic, religious and cultural backgrounds while adhering strictly to camp regulations designed to promote discipline, safety and personal development.
