Gunmen have killed a pregnant woman and a young man in a renewed attack on Dyan community in Rim Village, Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Community sources said the assailants invaded the area around 10 p.m. on Friday, opening fire on residents and killing the two victims.

The deceased were identified as 32-year-old Mrs Happiness Pam, who was pregnant, and 24-year-old Daniel Luka.

Reacting to the incident, the Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM) condemned the killings, describing the attack as brutal and unacceptable.

In a statement issued on Saturday and signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr Rwang Tengwong, the association said it received news of the attack with shock and sadness, expressing concern over the continued insecurity affecting Riyom and other communities in Plateau State.

“It is heartbreaking that a pregnant woman carrying the hope of a family and an innocent young man with a promising future became victims of yet another senseless act of violence.

“These killings represent not only an attack on individuals but also an assault on the collective peace, security and humanity of our people,” the statement read.

The association extended its sympathies to the families of the victims, the people of Dyan community, Rim Village, and the entire Riyom Local Government Area.

BYM urged security agencies to step up efforts to track down those responsible and ensure they face justice. It also called on both the Federal Government and the Plateau State Government to take stronger steps to safeguard vulnerable communities.

The group further expressed concern over deteriorating security following the reported abduction of two drivers along the Kassa axis of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area.

According to the association, the victims were travelling through the area at about 10 p.m. on Thursday when armed men intercepted and abducted them.

BYM appealed to security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue the kidnapped drivers and improve security along major roads in affected communities.

The association also advised residents to remain alert and, where possible, avoid travelling at night along routes considered vulnerable, while reiterating its commitment to supporting lawful initiatives aimed at restoring peace and security across Plateau State.
