The Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government Administration, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development has disclosed plans to conduct a comprehensive inspection of projects in all Local Government Areas (LGAs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) across the state.
The inspection exercise is set to begin on Monday, June 22, 2026.
Speaking ahead of the tour, the committee’s Chairman, Sanni Ganiyu Babatunde, said the initiative is part of the Assembly’s constitutional mandate to promote accountability, transparency and efficient service delivery at the grassroots level.
He explained that the inspection would enable lawmakers to physically assess both ongoing and completed projects, determine their level of execution, and evaluate their direct impact on residents, while also ensuring that public funds are properly utilized for developmental purposes.
Babatunde noted that local governments remain the tier of government closest to the people, playing a critical role in delivering essential services and infrastructure. He stressed that all council projects must align with approved standards and reflect the genuine needs of residents.
He further clarified that the oversight exercise is not aimed at targeting any local government administration, but rather at strengthening good governance, improving institutional accountability, and promoting prudent management of public resources.
According to him, the committee remains committed to supporting policies and programmes that enhance grassroots development, strengthen local governance structures, and improve the overall quality of life of residents across Lagos State.
The inspection will cover key developmental projects, including road construction and rehabilitation, drainage systems, healthcare facilities, educational infrastructure, market projects, and other community-based interventions executed by local councils.
The tour is expected to span all 57 Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas in Lagos State.
