The United States Mission in Nigeria has urged Nigerian travellers to strictly comply with US immigration rules and adhere to the terms of their visas while in the country.

It advised applicants to ensure they do not overstay their permitted duration, keep all travel documents valid, and avoid any actions that could affect their chances of future entry into the United States.

In a statement shared on its official X handle on Tuesday, the mission stressed that compliance with visa conditions is essential for safeguarding future travel and study opportunities.

It added that obeying immigration rules is not only required but also important for protecting individual prospects.

“Staying compliant with U.S. immigration laws isn’t just the right thing to do; it protects your future and keeps opportunities open for Nigerian travelers,” the post read.

The reminder comes amid continued efforts by US authorities to reduce visa overstays and strengthen the integrity of its immigration system.

The mission further encouraged Nigerians travelling for study, work, or visits to always respect the conditions attached to their visas.

“Whether you’re studying, working, or visiting the United States, always honour the terms of your visa. Follow the rules. Stay only for as long as you are authorized. Keep your documents updated. Make choices that safeguard your dreams,” the mission said.

It added that respecting immigration procedures benefits both travellers and strengthens US-Nigeria relations, noting that “when you respect the process, everyone wins.”

The US Mission said these measures are aimed at preserving the credibility of the visa system and ensuring continued access for genuine applicants.
