The National Examinations Council has released the results of the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination, with 186,291 candidates having registered for the examination across the country.
NECO said candidates sat for examinations in 12 subjects and were drawn from the 36 states, the Federal Capital Territory and five foreign countries.
The examination began on April 20, 2026, and ended on April 30, 2026. The Council approved and released the results after the 2026 BECE Award Committee meeting held at its headquarters in Minna, Niger State, on Thursday.
Speaking during the meeting, the Chairperson of the Award Committee, Folake David, Director of Basic Education at the Federal Ministry of Education, representing the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the examination and the processes that enabled the timely release of the results.
Secondary school principals from across the country and members of NECO’s management team attended the meeting.
The Award Committee also approved July 22 and 23, 2026, as the dates for the BECE re-sit examination in Mathematics and English Studies.
NECO explained that the re-sit examination is specifically designed for candidates with conditional deficiencies in Mathematics, English Studies or both subjects.
The Council said the exercise will enable affected candidates to correct their deficiencies and obtain the required certification for admission into Senior Secondary School One without repeating an academic session.
NECO reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining credible assessment standards while ensuring that eligible candidates have the opportunity to continue their education.
