The Ogun State Police Command has apprehended three individuals over the killing of a former staff member of Ogun State Television (OGTV), Madam Olakitan Oyesiku, and her security guard, Pelumi Adetayo.

The prime suspect, 22-year-old Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip, who previously worked as a security guard for the deceased, allegedly informed investigators that he enlisted the help of two others to carry out the attack. He reportedly said the plan was intended to “teach her a lesson” over what he considered inadequate pay during his period of employment.

The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, revealed the development on Thursday while addressing journalists at the Command Headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta.

He identified the other suspects as Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola, 27, and Sobu Obafunsho, 36, both of whom are currently in police custody.

According to the police commissioner, the case was reported on June 21, 2026, when officers at Owode-Egba Police Station received information about suspicious circumstances at Madam Oyesiku’s residence.

Detectives who responded to the scene discovered the lifeless body of Pelumi Adetayo inside the security house, while Madam Oyesiku was found dead in a pool of blood in the living room of her residence.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased’s Lexus RX 330 SUV was missing, prompting suspicions of robbery and murder.

Ojajuni said the Command immediately launched an intensive investigation involving intelligence gathering and technical tracking.

Within 24 hours, operatives traced and recovered the stolen vehicle at Onikolobo, Ogun State. Although the suspects had removed the ignition key and detached the number plates, investigators recovered the registration plate hidden beneath a seat, confirming ownership of the vehicle.

A significant breakthrough came through a handwritten note allegedly left at the crime scene. The note was subjected to forensic examination, generating leads that assisted detectives in identifying and tracking the suspects.

Philip was arrested on June 24 at a construction site in Ibara GRA, Abeokuta, where he was working as a labourer. Further operations led to the arrest of Ayoola and Obafunsho.

Police said Philip confessed to planning and participating in the murders. During interrogation, he reportedly stated that he enlisted the assistance of the two other suspects because he harboured grievances against Madam Oyesiku from the period he worked as her security guard.

According to investigators, the suspects carried out the attack on June 20. They allegedly overpowered Pelumi Adetayo and used him to gain access to the residence before attacking and killing Madam Oyesiku. The security guard was later killed, police said.

The suspects subsequently fled with the victim’s Lexus SUV, which was later recovered by operatives.

Searches conducted during the investigation led to the recovery of several exhibits, including a broken hammer, a cutlass, a plank, a black pen and other items believed to be linked to the crime.

While affirming that the suspects had made useful confessional statements, Ojajuni stressed that they remain entitled to due process and a fair trial. He added that investigations were ongoing to strengthen the evidence and ensure diligent prosecution.

“The Ogun State Police Command remains committed to ensuring that justice is served and that all persons connected with this heinous crime are brought to book,” the commissioner said.
