A man who was reportedly hired to participate in a counter-protest and present a positive picture of the situation in the country appeared to abandon the expected narrative while addressing the gathering.

Instead of simply defending the situation, the man called for peace and urged the authorities to consider the hardship being faced by Nigerians.

“We need peace in this country. He should consider us because things are very tough for us. There is hunger everywhere.

“Before, you could use N100 to drink garri, but now even N1,000 is what you need to drink garri. He should please consider us,” he said.

His comments have since generated reactions online, with many social media users joking that he appeared to have forgotten the message he was allegedly hired to deliver.

The video has also sparked discussions about claims that people are sometimes mobilised to stage counter-protests or create a particular narrative around public demonstrations.

However, the identity of the man and the person or group that allegedly hired him could not be independently verified.
