The Anambra State Police Command has dismantled a suspected cultists’ hideout in Awada, Idemili North Local Government Area, recovering AK-47 magazines, live ammunition and other police-related items.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed in a statement on Friday that operatives attached to the IGP’s Violent Crime Response Unit carried out the operation on June 20.

According to him, the raid at Nwaziki Street, Awada, led to the recovery of two AK-47 magazines, 60 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition and other items linked to the police.

Ikenga said the location had been identified as a notorious black spot associated with cult-related activities in the area.

He noted that no arrests were made during the operation as the suspects fled on sighting the operatives, but investigations are underway to track them down and determine ownership of the recovered exhibits.

“The Police team stormed the notorious black spot known for cult-related activities at Nwaziki Street, Awada. Although no suspect was arrested at the scene, investigations have commenced to identify and arrest the fleeing suspects, establish ownership of the recovered exhibits and unravel any criminal network linked to the items,” he said.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, commended the operatives for their intelligence-led efforts and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to sustaining raids on criminal hideouts across the state.
