Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have killed two suspected kidnappers and recovered an AK-47 rifle, mobile phones, and other items believed to be connected to criminal activities after rescuing the abducted Prince of Okun Owa, Prince Idris.

The police said the breakthrough followed sustained intelligence-driven operations by the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit, which mounted pressure on the gang allegedly responsible for the prince’s abduction.

Prince Idris was abducted on June 30, 2026, at about 7:30 p.m. after armed men reportedly stormed his residence in Okun Owa and took him away.

In a statement released on Thursday, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, immediately directed the deployment of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit alongside other tactical teams to secure the prince’s safe release and arrest those behind the crime.

Babaseyi stated that the sustained security operation compelled the kidnappers to free the victim unharmed on July 3, 2026.

“Upon receipt of the report, the State Commissioner of Police immediately directed the activation of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit, supported by other tactical teams, to secure the victim’s release and apprehend those responsible,” the statement read.

Following the victim’s release, the police intensified efforts to trace and arrest other members of the kidnapping gang.

According to the Command, actionable intelligence led operatives to the Agoro/Imodi area, where the suspects confronted them with gunfire.

“Acting on credible intelligence, the operatives stormed the Agoro/Imodi axis. On sighting the police, the kidnappers engaged the operatives in a gun duel. The operatives responded decisively, leading to the neutralisation of two kidnappers, while other members of the gang escaped with gunshot wounds,” the statement said.

Police said a search of the deceased suspects resulted in the recovery of an AK-47 rifle with an empty magazine, two mobile phones, a bag believed to have been used to collect ransom payments, and other exhibits connected to the kidnapping.

The Command further disclosed that the bodies of the suspects had been taken to a government morgue for autopsy, while investigations continued to apprehend the fleeing gang members and recover more exhibits.

Commending the officers involved, Commissioner of Police CP Bode Ojajuni lauded the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and supporting tactical teams for their conduct during the operation.

“The Commissioner of Police commends the courage, professionalism, and operational efficiency of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and other tactical teams involved in the operation. He reaffirms the Command’s unwavering commitment to identifying, tracking, and dismantling criminal networks operating within the state”.

Ojajuni also urged residents of Ogun State to stay alert and continue providing the police with prompt and credible information, assuring them that the Command would sustain intelligence-led policing and tactical operations to protect lives and property across the state.
