A former commercial motorcyclist has been arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency after allegedly attempting to smuggle methamphetamine into Nigeria by swallowing 100 wraps of the illicit drug.
The suspect was apprehended by NDLEA operatives at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Ikeja, Lagos, after arriving on a flight from Uganda, where investigators believe he ingested the drug before travelling.
According to the agency, intelligence gathered ahead of his arrival led officers to monitor his movements before placing him under observation. During the process, he reportedly excreted all 100 wraps of methamphetamine.
The NDLEA said the man had spent about 15 years working as an okada rider in Lagos before allegedly becoming involved with an international drug trafficking network in pursuit of a better income.
Announcing the arrest in a statement posted on X on Sunday, the agency described the case as another example of the consequences of seeking quick wealth through illicit means.
“After 15 years of working as an okada rider in Lagos, this individual decides he needed to forcefully upgrade and change his social status by joining a transnational drug trafficking organisation.
“That dream has not only crumbled now but is ending in premium tears following his arrest at the Lagos airport by #ndlea_nigeria officers after excreting a whopping 100 wraps of methamphetamine he ingested in far away Uganda.”
