Organisers of the Nigeria Spelling Bee have commenced registration for the 2026 edition of the national contest, calling on parents and schools to enrol qualified pupils and students for a chance to win scholarships, cash rewards and represent the country at the African Spelling Bee.
The registration exercise, announced on the competition’s official portal, is open to both individual contestants and schools.
“Get ready to embark on an exciting journey of language and literacy excellence. Whether you’re registering as a student or a school group, this is the first step toward showcasing your spelling skills on a national stage,” the organisers said.
They added, “Complete the registration form from the links below to secure your spot in the competition and get closer to winning amazing prizes, including scholarships and the chance to represent Nigeria at the African Spelling Bee.”
Before applying, organisers urged prospective contestants and schools to verify that all participants meet the competition’s requirements.
“Before proceeding with your registration, please ensure that you (or your students) meet all the eligibility requirements for the Nigeria Spelling Bee,” the statement read.
“To avoid disqualification, we encourage you to review the Eligibility Page thoroughly before completing your registration.”
The registration fee is ₦5,000 per contestant and can be paid through bank deposits, transfers, ATMs or approved gift vouchers. Participants were advised to keep their payment receipts for verification.
“Keep your deposit slip safe, as you will need it for the online registration form and to present on the competition day,” the organisers stated.
They also warned applicants against exposing their banking details.
“Ensure your payment details are secure. Nigeria Spelling Bee is not responsible for any issues arising from sharing or exposing your payment information,” the organisers said.
According to the organisers, late registration or registration at the competition venue, where permitted, will attract an extra ₦1,000, increasing the fee to ₦6,000.
After payment, each participant must complete a separate online registration to obtain a unique Speller ID, which will serve as their official identification throughout the competition.
“Each speller must be registered separately.”
“After registering, each speller will receive a Unique Speller-ID. This ID will be used to identify them during the competition.”
Successful contestants are expected to present both their registration confirmation and proof of payment on the day of the competition.
Top performers will receive scholarships and cash prizes, with the Senior National Champion earning a ₦1 million scholarship, the Junior Champion receiving ₦500,000, and the Primary category winner taking home ₦150,000. Finalists will also qualify to represent Nigeria at the African Spelling Bee, while national champions will become lifetime ambassadors of the competition.
Schools willing to host the event can also submit applications.
“Your school may apply to host the Competition in its premises,” the organisers said.
They noted that schools entering more than 10 contestants could benefit from bulk registration discounts and reminded applicants that registration fees are non-refundable.
