The Kwara State Government has confirmed the release of victims who were abducted during the February 3, 2026, attack on Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area.
The announcement was made on Wednesday through a post on the state government’s official Facebook page, several months after 176 residents were kidnapped in the attack.
In the post, the government stated, “Alihamdulillaah and kudos to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, security forces, and everyone who played a role in this huge feat. We are grateful!”
The victims were abducted after suspected Boko Haram-linked militants stormed the rural communities of Woro and Nuku on motorcycles, carrying out a coordinated attack that reportedly lasted for several hours.
The attack, described as one of the worst in Kwara State’s history, reportedly left more than 200 people dead, injured several others, destroyed homes and businesses, and displaced many residents.
Local vigilantes who tried to resist the attackers were reportedly overpowered, with some said to have been trapped inside their office and burnt to death.
As of the time this report was filed, authorities had not disclosed further details on how the victims regained their freedom or the circumstances surrounding their release.
