A 55-year-old voter, Sharafa Lasisi, has appealed for intervention after he was unable to complete the accreditation process because the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System failed to recognise his face.
Lasisi encountered the problem while attempting to vote at Polling Unit 006, Ward 04, in the Isale/Oke-Afo area of Ikirun, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Osun State, on Saturday.
According to him, he repeatedly presented himself for facial authentication, but the BVAS machine could not complete the verification.
He said officials at the polling unit informed him that network challenges were responsible and advised him to leave and return later.
Lasisi said he took the advice but, upon returning to the polling unit, the accreditation problem remained unresolved.
He said, “My name is Sharafa Lasisi. I am from Alamisi Unit 6. I am 55 years old. I have been to where they are supposed to verify my face but they said the network isn’t letting the verification go through.
“They said I should go and eat at home. I went and came back and it still didn’t go through. I want them to help me so I will be able to cast my vote also.”
The incident happened amid a strong turnout of voters at polling centres across the state during the Osun governorship election.
Lasisi appealed to the electoral authorities to address the issue promptly and ensure that the accreditation failure did not stop him from participating in the election.
