Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has called on stakeholders involved in the state’s reconciliation efforts to remain committed to the peace process, saying stability is necessary for meaningful development.
The governor said the state had moved past its prolonged political tensions and was currently enjoying what he described as a “state of rest.”
Fubara spoke on Wednesday during the commissioning of an Entrepreneurship Centre and Engineering Faculty Building at Captain Elechi Amadi Polytechnic, Rumuola, in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.
He urged political actors not to take the prevailing calm for granted, noting that the peace had created an environment where government could concentrate on development.
His comments came amid ongoing efforts by the Rainbow Coalition reconciliation committee, led by Senator Magnus Abe, to bring Fubara’s political camp into the emerging political arrangement in Rivers ahead of the 2027 elections.
The governor also said his administration would use the remaining period of his tenure to execute projects capable of making a lasting difference in the lives of residents.
He stressed that government projects should go beyond physical structures and provide practical benefits, particularly in education, skills development and employment.
Fubara said the Entrepreneurship Centre would help students acquire skills that could enable them to establish businesses instead of depending solely on government jobs.
He also advocated greater attention to technical education, arguing that the changing nature of work required young people to develop practical skills that could meet modern economic demands.
The governor thanked the people of Obio/Akpor for their support since he assumed office in 2023, describing the local government as particularly important to his administration.
He further maintained that the state’s current calm should be preserved, saying the government needed peace to continue delivering projects and improving the lives of residents.
