The burial ceremony of veteran Yoruba actor, Taiwo Hassan, popularly called Ogogo, was marked by an emotional moment on Monday when one of his wives burst into tears in Ilaro, Ogun State.
In a video from the ceremony, the grieving woman was surrounded by women who consoled her as family members, friends, colleagues and other mourners gathered to honour the late actor.
The actor’s remains were carried to the burial ground as the funeral rites were observed according to Islamic tradition.
Ogogo’s close friend and fellow actor, Yinka Quadri, was also overcome with emotion and was seen crying while those around him offered comfort.
Among the Nollywood stars who attended the burial were Jide Kosoko, Faithia Balogun, Femi Adebayo, Madam Saje, Mr Latin and Toyosi Adesanya.
Ireti Osayemi, Bisi Omo Logbalogba and several other actors, relatives and well-wishers were also in attendance.
Speaking to journalists before the burial, actor Bola Oyin-Adejobi paid tribute to Ogogo and prayed for the late actor to attain Al-Jannah Firdaus.
The burial came after a lying-in-state ceremony held earlier in Ilaro, Ogogo’s hometown.
The 66-year-old actor passed away at about 3pm on Sunday. Veteran actor Jide Kosoko had announced his death on Instagram and disclosed arrangements for his remains to be taken to Ilaro.
The Ilaro Muslim Community also announced the prayer session for the deceased.
Ogogo’s death occurred shortly after his daughters, Kaira and Lima Taiwo, sought financial and medical support for their father, who was undergoing treatment for stage-four cancer.
Kaira had explained that the doctors treating him could no longer continue with chemotherapy due to his condition, forcing the family to consider alternative treatment.
The late actor was a major figure in Yoruba cinema, with a career spanning over four decades. He featured in hundreds of productions and remained one of the best-known faces in the Yoruba film industry.
