Popular Nigerian dancer and socialite Iweh Odinaka, better known as Poco Lee, is reportedly being held on remand in the United Kingdom over an alleged assault offence.
Benjamin Kuti, popularly known as the Oluomo of Derby and founder of the Nigerian community in the UK, confirmed the development on Monday.
Kuti said Poco Lee is expected to appear before the Snaresbrook Crown Court in London on September 15, 2026, at 10am for a plea hearing.
According to him, the dancer is currently in a UK prison pending the court proceedings.
“I can confirm that the reports are true. Poco Lee is currently on remand in a UK prison. His next court date is scheduled for the second week of September, when he is expected to have a plea hearing,” Kuti said.
He explained that a plea hearing ordinarily involves an accused person entering either a guilty or not-guilty plea.
Kuti added that he intends to attend the proceedings to support Poco Lee as part of his activities assisting Nigerians involved in legal matters in the UK.
He, however, stressed that the legal process should be allowed to take its course, noting that everyone is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
Reports about Poco Lee’s alleged detention in the UK began circulating online on August 19, but early reports did not identify the alleged complainant or provide details about the circumstances surrounding the alleged offence.
At the time of the report, UK police and the court had not independently confirmed the arrest publicly. An email sent to the Snaresbrook Crown Court seeking confirmation of the court date and case details had also not received a response.
Poco Lee is expected to appear before the Snaresbrook Crown Court on September 15, 2026, at 10am.
