Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), has constituted a 600-member campaign council for the African Democratic Congress in Kebbi State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Malami, the party’s governorship candidate in the state, inaugurated the council on Wednesday and urged members to work together to strengthen the ADC’s presence at the grassroots.
According to him, the campaign structure was designed to cover the state’s 21 local government areas and drive the party’s mobilisation efforts across communities, wards and polling units.
He said the composition of the council reflected the different communities and political districts across Kebbi State.
“This campaign council represents our collective ADC campaign. It is not about one candidate or one elective position. From the governorship to the Senate, House of Representatives and State House of Assembly, we must work as one political family,” Malami said.
Malami also acknowledged the party’s senatorial candidates, including Gen Aminu Bande (retd.) for Kebbi Central, Garba Maidoki for Kebbi South and Chiroman Kabi, Alhaji Mera, for Kebbi North, alongside other National and State Assembly candidates.
He appealed to party members to put aside ethnic considerations, internal rivalry and personal differences, warning that disunity could affect the party’s electoral prospects.
He also encouraged members to resolve disagreements through dialogue and reconciliation.
“Where there are disagreements, let us reconcile. Where there are grievances, let us listen. Where there is suspicion, let us rebuild trust. Our diversity must become our strength,” he said.
Introducing the campaign slogan, “One ADC, One Campaign,” Malami urged all candidates and supporters to prioritise the party’s overall objectives rather than individual interests.
“Different candidates, one ADC. Different communities, one Kebbi State. Different responsibilities, one common purpose,” Malami declared.
He further called on supporters to avoid provocative statements, hate speech and ethnic attacks during the campaign, stressing the need to preserve relationships despite political differences.
“After the elections, we will still worship together, attend the same markets, celebrate together, mourn together and raise our children together. No political ambition is worth destroying those bonds,” he said.
The former minister described the council appointments as an opportunity to serve and charged members with mobilising voters, engaging dissatisfied party members and explaining the ADC’s programmes to residents.
He urged the appointees to act as representatives of the party in their communities and work together to build a disciplined grassroots campaign.
The inauguration comes amid increased preparations by political parties for the 2027 elections, with Kebbi expected to witness intensified contests for the governorship and legislative seats.
Malami said the new campaign council would usher the ADC into a fresh stage of mobilisation in the state.
“We choose unity over division. We choose cooperation over rivalry. We choose reconciliation over bitterness. We choose respect over insults. We choose service over personal interest.
“Let us rise above our differences. Let us rise above tribalism and sectionalism. Let us arise together in service to our people. And together, let us make Kebbi State shine. Arise and Shine,” he added.
