Nigerian comedian Ayo Makun, popularly called AY, has shared his amazement after experiencing a driverless Uber ride in Atlanta, Georgia, United States.
The comedian took to Instagram on Sunday to document the unusual experience, joking about the level of technological advancement he encountered during his trip.
A video posted alongside his message showed AY seated inside the vehicle as it moved without anyone behind the wheel. He also showed how he used his phone to gain access to the car and activate the ride.
Reflecting on the experience, he wrote, “I entered Uber in Atlanta… na Jaguar, but driver no dey!, Oyibo don use technology make motor drive itself. Meanwhile, for Africa, our jazz na to dey turn people into yam. When our own juju go upgrade? See you guys at #enish_restaurant tonight in Houston.”
As the journey continued, AY expressed his surprise at seeing a vehicle operate completely on its own.
He said, “When oyinbo dey tell una say dem no be una mate, Una go dey follow him argue follow them, they argue.”
He further remarked, “See, na the car dey drive himself. Na my uber be this. E dey carry me they go. Dem don tell una say dem no be una mate una no wan hear word una go dey do juju. They do different things, they kill people for Africa. I don’t want juju, that will kill people.”
The comedian also explained the process of starting the journey, saying, “I unlocked the car with my phone. Start the ride with my phone. And here we go. On my birthday. So we’re arriving in four minutes, basically. All by myself. No driver. Arriving in four minutes.”
The post, shared on his birthday, attracted a number of reactions from his followers, with several users making light-hearted comments about the driverless vehicle.
