Former All Progressives Congress presidential aspirant, Adamu Garba, has announced his decision to reduce his involvement in politics and concentrate fully on his technology venture.
Garba made the announcement on Tuesday through a statement posted on his X account, citing the increasing demands of his responsibilities within IPI Group Limited.
He explained that his roles as Executive Chairman of the company and Chief Platform Architect require his direct involvement and technical expertise, making it difficult for him to continue with extensive political activities.
“To my friends, associates, party leaders, supporters and the general public, after careful reflection, I write to formally announce my decision to scale down all politically related activities and to focus exclusively on my responsibilities as Executive Chairman of IPI Group Limited and Chief Platform Architect of the Group and all its subsidiaries,” Garba said.
According to him, maintaining a strong commitment to both politics and his business could negatively affect one of the two areas.
“In all honesty, they cannot be carried alongside heavy political participation without one or the other suffering.
“I have therefore chosen to give my full and exclusive attention to the development of our AI-First enterprise, and to the work of strengthening our community and our society through technology, for the greater good of all, and for the benefit of the future of our country and our continent,” the former presidential aspirant said.
Garba further acknowledged the support he received during his years of political involvement, saying the experience had played an important role in shaping him.
“I am deeply grateful for the interest, the invitations and the collective support I have received throughout my political journey over the past nine years. That season shaped me, and I do not take lightly the confidence that was placed in me.”
His political journey began with his declaration to seek the APC presidential ticket ahead of the 2019 election. His campaign focused on issues such as reforming government structures, increasing youth participation and promoting national integration.
He later sought the party’s presidential ticket again ahead of the 2023 election.
Garba eventually stepped down from the APC presidential race in 2022. At the time, he criticised the N100m cost of the party’s expression-of-interest and nomination forms, arguing that the financial requirement could make political contests inaccessible to younger and less wealthy Nigerians.
His campaign had received approximately N83.2m from supporters, with Garba saying the money would be returned.
Although he withdrew from the presidential contest, Garba remained publicly linked with the APC until his latest announcement indicating a move away from active political participation.
