Police nab teenager for stabbing 20-year-old in Cross River

The Cross River State Police Command has arrested a 16-year-old boy for allegedly stabbing a 20-year-old man, Uwem Daniel Akpan, in Akamkpa Local Government Area of the state.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Tuesday and made available to journalists in Calabar.

Eitokpah said the incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 31, 2026, following a misunderstanding at Peters Street in Awi community, Akamkpa LGA.

According to the statement, the victim was taken to the Naval Reference Hospital in Calabar, where he was confirmed dead. His remains were later recovered by members of his family.

The statement read, “The Cross River State Police Command has commenced investigation into the death of a 20-year-old male, Uwem Daniel Akpan, who was allegedly stabbed during a misunderstanding at Peters Street, Awi, Cross River on 31 August, 2026.

“The incident reportedly occurred at about 7:30 pm, after which the victim was rushed to the Naval Reference Hospital, Calabar, where he was confirmed dead. His remains were subsequently recovered by his family.

“A 16-year-old male suspect has been arrested in connection with the incident and is currently in police custody. The Command is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death and the alleged involvement of the suspect,” the statement added.

According to the statement, the case is being prepared for transfer to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Calabar for further investigation and appropriate legal action.

The police spokesman urged members of the public to remain calm and avoid taking the law into their own hands, assuring that the incident would be thoroughly investigated.

“Further information will be provided as the investigation progresses and relevant facts are established,” ASP Eitokpah added.
