Veteran actor Pete Edochie has advised married men to avoid situations where they become financially dependent on their wives.

The 79-year-old Nollywood veteran cautioned that allowing a woman to provide for her husband for an extended period could expose the man to hurtful insults and humiliation.

Edochie said the level of insults a man could receive from a wife who feeds him for a few days could become unbearable, adding that he “would want to take poison.”

He gave the advice during an interview on Curiosity Made Me Ask, hosted by content creator Adebayo Abidemi, popularly known as Isbae U, which was published on Saturday.

The actor, who noted that he has been married for more than five decades, said, “I want you to listen properly. This is wisdom from somebody who has been in that institution for almost 60 years. I have been married for the past 57 years.”

“If things change and your wife has to feed you for two or three days, you would want to take poison. The kind of insult that will be heaped on you because your wife is feeding you, don’t ever think about it.”

Edochie also said he does not have a favourite actor, explaining that he considers himself bigger than his colleagues.

When asked to name his favourite actor, the veteran said he could not choose one because he sees himself as bigger than all of them.

The actor also addressed claims by some people that they are older than him in the industry, saying he had never considered it necessary to respond to such assertions.

“People have been writing that they are older than me in the industry, but I don’t respond,” he said.

The veteran added that “whoever said they are of the same level with me should come out and say it.”
