[TRENDING VIDEO] Netizens react as NAFDAC Chief laughs off resignation calls amid fake drugs outrage
Social media has been buzzing following a viral video showing NAFDAC Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, laughing during a press briefing in Lagos after a journalist told her that some Nigerians were calling for her resignation over the circulation of fake and substandard drugs.
During the briefing, the journalist raised concerns about the impact of the drugs on members of the public and said Nigerians were demanding the NAFDAC DG’s resignation over the issue.
Adeyeye reportedly responded with laughter before highlighting the agency’s efforts to combat fake and substandard products, including seizures recorded since 2017.
She also referenced recent enforcement activities, including the seizure of more than 7,210 fake products and 64 convictions, with some offenders receiving prison sentences of up to seven years.
However, her reaction has drawn criticism from citizens and netizens who questioned the appropriateness of laughing while responding to concerns about the effects of fake drugs on people’s health.
Some social media users described the reaction as insensitive, particularly given reports of individuals suffering health complications after using substandard or falsified medicines.
The video has continued to generate reactions online, with the debate centred on whether the NAFDAC DG’s response was appropriate given the seriousness of the concerns raised.

Here are some of the reactions:
Nwankudu Osinachi (@Osinachi): She’s laughing, bro. She’s laughing!! Food, beverages, drugs, basically every consumable out there has a fake. People are falling sick and dying because of counterfeit products, and she’s laughing? These guys no even rate us at all. Dora Akunyili must be turning in her grave right now.
Duns is listening to Starr G… (@Duns_Official): Laughing and making jokes when people are dying because of intense neglect of a very important topic is the most callous, most arrogant and simply unprofessional response from someone in a very very serious position. Whether you’re apc or ndc or whatever this should bother you. This should really bother you.
OurFaveOnlineDoc (@OurFaveOnlineDoc): NAFDAC DG Adeyeye laughed after journalist told her Nigerians are calling for her resignation over fake drugs. People are dying. Lives are destroyed. Children are hospitalised. Over the incompetence of NAFDAC. But DG is laughing. What a country.
kosy (@ChibuokeK65137): That’s a wicked laugh… Like there’s nothing anyone can do to bring her down. This country is messed up alot of people are dying from consuming fake products because you people refused to sit up and you’re laughing…
Choco-Bandit (@Saiba_bandit): One thing I like about Americans is them fit OFF you if you yarn this talk as an DG,CEO,MD,COO etc especially if their one of their family suffered from the incompetence of their food and drug agency. Nigerians are too docile and cowardly to make that move
Oman (@OmanIPL): Just imagine it shows this country needs change cause how could you be laughing at a very important question about health of Nigeria in a working country this will never happen laugh why ask a question about the on going issues consing the citizens health 70% fake food everywhere
IamEri’Oluwa🇳🇬 (@IamEriOluwa): We are often a laughing stock to the ruling elites. That is why it is painful when some people fail to understand that party loyalty is not the same as patriotism to one’s country. When someone is not providing the kind of leadership that produces the results we desire, the best thing to do is to remove them and bring in someone who can do it better.
Jenny (@RealQueenJenny): Is there any difference between this woman and her employee??? Always apportioning blames. You have been there for years ma, yet nothing to show for it instead you continue to look for who to blame. FAILURES!!!
BossVicee (@VictorAkpabio9): But I really don’t blame this old incompetent bitch, na Nigerians I blame aswear, just look at the way she laughed, like look at this clowns, making a mockery of the people and she will still go about her normal biz God, when Nigerians go wake up
VICTORIA (@thorializzy): To know a dullard is not hard. Just tell me what’s funny. When someone lacks intellectual comprehension, their first response is laughter instead of addressing the issue. Nigerian leaders are retards as F. They lack empathy, they’re narcissistic, and they don’t give a F about us.
MCITOGRAPHE (@mcbitographer): it is time we start from every incompetent agencies ourselves cz this looks like a comedy show to her, we need to start stoning these people out of the office
Engr Marez (@EngrMarez): Looks horrible. Speaks totally off point. The worst of them always get the top spot. It’s obvious that position is another political wing.
Micheal (@Isabel79680831): This foolish woman who is a mother is laughing, what is funny ? So we are now jokers , motherfucker if we want you out of that damn sit you will leave with immediate effect
@Skood (@skood009): Nigeria is a comedy, even if every last person dies none of them will resign. We do not have this in our system as a nation
Celebrityfarmer (@Siyanbola…): One day, her family will cry out to Nigerians for help but then we will laugh at them.
Dike Oha (@DikeOha2): We missed the days of ACTION WOMAN who had value for human lives, Late Dora Akunyili… God rest her soul
Henro_Buks (@H_O_factor): Her acts depicts how the leaders of Nigeria takes her people, they really don’t about the masses, people are dying you are laughing so dam hard.
Octagon (@whitelightgel): Why won’t she laugh… Let her laugh more. We Nigerians are not ready.
Mr Morals™ (@Mrmorazz): The underlying issue is our gov.t for her to even laugh out this loud means, she careless and the government can’t do anything about it
SENIOR MAN™ (@IamG4ndz): See I think we need to come out in mass and protest about the unseriousness of the Nafdac to find and prosecute people dealing in fake products that are harmful to the lives of Nigerians. You can imagine her laughing bcuz she thinks nothing can happen, or it’s the usual bants.
Sammy (@SammyAdept): They never care about the masses, they never care about us. That’s why every pressing issue seems like a joke to them
Best Defender (@BestDefender): Was this the question they asked her
U S M A N🇳🇬🇦🇺 (@rad_usman): For her it’s politics, they don’t care about people health or life in this part of the world. NAFDAC is the most useless agency right now in Nigeria..
Nawa oo (@TruthNawa): Dora the Explorer. That’s how a lot of professors behave. They lack leadership skills
Oohbee (@oohbeee): NAFDAC DG laughing at a serious question is embarrassing. It shows just how low the standards of that office have dropped, especially when you compare it to the professionalism past DGs were known for
Oladeji A. Egbetunde, Esq. (@OladejiEgbetunde): She can’t do anything meaningful as NAFDAC’s head. A young, vibrant, diligent, genuine, and sincere person should head the Organisation immediately; otherwise, a pandemic is looming because fake products are everywhere.
CHUKWURAH Ikenna (@G8Ikenna): Madam, the kettle is far from being white. This shows how disconnected you are from the realities Nigerians are facing daily. In case you haven’t noticed, the kettle have become darker than Coaltar. This is the worst DG regime ever. Dangerous fake products all over the country.
whash (@madwash_): The level of entitlement in Nigeria is unreal. We don’t care if you’re the DG or not, we’re not your staff. We’re concerned about our well-being, not your personal or official politics. Tell us the concrete measures you’re taking to stop the influx of fake products.
Mr. Peniel (@pmascot): For you to know how ineffective this woman is, just 200m away from NAFDAC Lab in Agulu, most of the shops sell Fake wine and Drinks. The Audacity for such is that NAFDAC won’t do anything.
Austin Ariko (@Austino87087): Please what really going on. Why are we not serious you asked her a question you is saying something else
Pastor Fisayo Adeniyi (@pf_adeniyi): Why is she laughing and mocking. What is funny. Fake drugs are on the rampant. My daughter used one, only God saved us. And she is laughing. What is funny…! We have a fake drugs, drinks epidemics
SUGAR GIRL of LAGOS (@Nneka_): It’s a joke to all of them, because they know you guys won’t do shit!
