Manchester United could be left with a compensation payment of only £300,000 if young winger Gabriel leaves the club, according to The Sun.
The report claims the player’s decision to seek a move is partly linked to his limited involvement during the club’s pre-season preparations.
Gabriel’s representatives reportedly believed he had a realistic chance of earning a place in Carrick’s first-team plans this season. However, the youngster’s future at Old Trafford now appears uncertain.
His situation has reportedly drawn interest from several major European clubs, including Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain.
Despite the interest surrounding the winger, United may not benefit financially from a potential departure in the form of a normal transfer fee.
If Gabriel joins a club outside England, FIFA’s youth training compensation rules could mean United receive only about £300,000 for the player.
The possible exit would therefore leave the Manchester club with a relatively small financial return for a player who has developed through its youth system.
