A female passenger has lost her life in a road crash along the Agbara-Lusada Expressway in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The woman, whose identity had yet to be established, reportedly fell from a motorcycle while the rider was trying to overtake a truck before she was run over.
The incident happened at about 7pm on Saturday near Cashier Bus Stop along the expressway.
An eyewitness, Kunle, said the motorcycle was attempting to pass the truck when the woman fell onto the road and came under the truck.
He said, “The accident involved a woman who was a passenger on a motorcycle. The motorcycle tried to overtake the truck, and in the process, the passenger, who was a woman, fell and was crushed by the truck.”
The incident was confirmed by the spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, Babatunde Akinbiyi, on Sunday.
Akinbiyi identified the truck as a white Howo with registration number T-34611LA and said two motorcycles, both without displayed registration numbers, were also involved.
He said preliminary accounts from witnesses indicated that the crash followed an alleged improper overtaking manoeuvre by one of the motorcycle riders.
“The RTA/RTC was caused by wrong overtaking on the part of the Okada rider, which led one of the Okada passengers to fall under the truck, which claimed her life,” Akinbiyi said.
Five people, three males and two females, were involved in the crash, according to the TRACE spokesperson. Two of the victims, a man and a woman, sustained injuries.
Akinbiyi said the injured victims were taken to a hospital by a good Samaritan before TRACE personnel got to the scene.
He added that the deceased was later taken away by her family, while the truck was moved to police custody as investigations continued.
TRACE officials and PAPA OSCAR responders were also said to have attended the scene and helped restore traffic movement along the highway.
