The Jigawa State chapter of the Nigeria Association of Auctioneers has appealed to the state government for a formal partnership aimed at improving the disposal of public assets and preventing revenue leakages.
The appeal was made on Friday when the association’s chairman, Abubakar Abdullahi, led members on a courtesy visit to the Jigawa State Head of Service, Muhammad Dagaceri, in Dutse.
Abdullahi said closer cooperation between the government and auctioneers would make the sale of state-owned assets more transparent and ensure the government receives the full proceeds from such transactions.
He explained that the arrangement would also encourage competitive bidding and ensure funds generated from the sale of government assets are paid directly into the state treasury.
“This will also help to ensure competitive pricing of auctioned assets, and guarantee that all proceeds are remitted directly into government coffers,” he revealed.
The chairman said auctioneers could help the government secure better value from assets put up for sale while strengthening accountability in the process.
According to him, “Our collaboration will ensure that state assets are auctioned efficiently, securing optimal deals, and ensuring all proceeds are remitted directly to state coffers.”
Abdullahi also appealed to the government to officially recognise auctioneers as important participants in the state’s asset disposal process, arguing that their professional methods could improve the outcome of government auctions.
He said members of the association had contributed to economic activities in Jigawa over the years.
The chairman also declared the political stance of the association, stating that, “The Jigawa State Association of Auctioneers is assuring Governor Umar Namadi that our members have remained vigilant and are working closely with well-meaning citizens of Jigawa State at the grassroots to ensure that Governor Umar Namadi is re-elected as Governor of Jigawa State for a second term.”
Speaking further on the association, Abdullahi said unity had been restored among its members.
“This can be achieved when the association is united, and I want to assure you that the association is now one in Jigawa State,” he said.
He added, “We are appealing for the government to accept auctioneers as partners in ensuring that all State assets auctioned get a better deal and the monies realised from the sales get to the coffers of the state government.”
In his response, Dagaceri welcomed the proposal and assured the association that the state government was prepared to cooperate with its members.
The Head of Service said the government valued the return of unity within the association, noting that, “The unity of members of the association is very critical in ensuring that transparency and accountability is in place while discharging their responsibilities.”
He said cooperation between the government and professional auctioneers could help strengthen accountability, reduce leakages and improve public confidence in the auction process.
Dagaceri further stated that the Namadi administration was committed to blocking revenue leakages and would work with professional organisations that support transparency, accountability and increased internally generated revenue.
He urged the auctioneers to preserve their unity and maintain professional standards as the state continues its efforts to improve revenue collection.
