The Nigerian Navy has cautioned the public against fraudulent Direct Short Service Commission recruitment notices being circulated on social media.
The Director of Naval Information, Captain Abi Folorunsho, issued the warning in a statement shared on his X handle on Tuesday.
According to Folorunsho, the circulating notices purportedly announcing vacancies for DSSC Course 30 and listing qualifications in areas including medicine, engineering, law and ICT did not originate from the Nigerian Navy.
He stressed that the Navy had yet to commence its DSSC recruitment exercise and urged members of the public to disregard the fake notices.
“The attached DSSC notices are not from the Nigerian Navy and have been circulating all over social media.
“The Nigerian Navy DSSC recruitment is not out, and when it is, the information will be posted on my page, the official Nigerian Navy website, and official social media pages. Please do not let anyone scam you,” he said.
The warning came a day after the Navy announced the commencement of its 2026 Batch 39 recruitment for the Nigerian Navy Basic Training School.
The Navy had said the Batch 39 recruitment exercise would run from October 2 to October 31, 2026, with eligible applicants required to apply through its official recruitment portal.
It also warned applicants that the recruitment process was free and cautioned them against making payments to anyone claiming to facilitate their recruitment.
The Navy said eligible applicants must be Nigerian citizens by birth, possess a National Identification Number and meet the specified educational, age, physical and medical requirements.
The DSSC recruitment referred to in Folorunsho’s warning is separate from the Batch 39 Basic Training School recruitment.
