Nigerian singer Adewale Mayowa Emmanuel, popularly known as Mayorkun, has said he would carry out a DNA test before accepting any child as his own.
The ‘Mama’ hitmaker made the disclosure during a recent episode of the In My Opinion podcast, revealing that he had informed his girlfriend of his plans to sign a prenuptial agreement before marriage and conduct a DNA test whenever she has a child.
According to Mayorkun, his girlfriend was unhappy with the decision, but he maintained that he intended to go ahead with it regardless.
“I told my girlfriend we’d have to do a prenup and DNA test when she gives me a child, just to be sure. She got upset.
“I have thought of doing the DNA test without telling her. If it is my child, no issues. If not, everybody will hear about it,” he said.
DNA testing is becoming increasingly popular in Nigeria, with some experts advocating for it due to the increasing cases of paternity fraud in the country.
Some celebrities have also come out to advise Nigerian men to conduct DNA tests to establish the paternity of their children before shouldering the responsibility.
