Ghanaian actress and fashion personality Nana Akua Addo has spoken out following the circulation of videos and reports alleging domestic violence involving her.

Several reports on Tuesday claimed that the actress had been hospitalised after allegedly being assaulted by her husband. In one of the viral clips, she appeared with a swollen lip, an injury beneath her eye and bloodstains on her white outfit.

Other videos showed the actress involved in an argument with her husband and members of his family over an issue reportedly connected to DNA testing. Another clip appeared to show her husband physically assaulting her daughter.

In a statement issued by her representatives, Addo confirmed that the matter has been reported to the Ghanaian police and is currently under investigation.

Her representatives urged media houses and the public to refrain from further sharing the videos, saying it could affect the mental wellbeing of the victims, who are already “dealing with enough trauma”.

“Our attention has been drawn to several harrowing videos circulating on social media, showing our client and her children embroiled in a domestic dispute. These videos were leaked without our client’s knowledge and consent and are a deep violation of her privacy and that of her children who are all minors,” the letter reads in part.

“We humbly request that all media houses refrain from publishing and sharing the videos especially the ones showing the abuse of a minor. This is a delicate matter involving young children and as such we are counting on your responsible journalism to safeguard the mental wellbeing of the victims of this unfortunate turn of events who are already dealing with enough trauma.

“Please note that the matter is currently sub judice and in the hands of the appropriate authorities. We are grateful for the timely intervention and responsiveness of Ghana Police and are confident in the competence of our court systems to stand up against domestic violence in our society.

‎”At the appropriate time our client will address all pertinent issues, in the meantime we ask that the media and the general public respect the privacy of the family as they deal with this difficult situation. Thank you for your attention to the matter.”
