Hull City fight back to draw with Everton

Mohamed Belloumi scored a second-half leveller as Hull City and Everton continued their good starts to the season with an entertaining draw at MKM Stadium according to BBC Sport.

Hull took the lead in the 43rd minute as Joe Gelhardt slipped the ball past onrushing Everton keeper Jordan Pickford after Sorba Thomas had intercepted Ainsley Maitland-Niles’ poor pass.

But less than five minutes later, Everton levelled when Maitland-Niles’ cross found Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall who nodded in at the back post.

Everton turned things around in the 68th minute when Thomas gave the ball away, allowing Dewsbury-Hall to play in Thierno Barry who finished well.

But Belloumi equalised with 16 minutes to go, firing a shot past Pickford after a cut-back from Elliot Stroud.

Hull’s fine start continues

After scoring for Algeria on Tuesday, Belloumi was only fit enough for the bench but his late goal was enough to save his side’s unbeaten home start to the season.

The midfielder looked set to shoot first time but smartly tapped the ball past Dewsbury-Hall and beat Pickford for pace with his driven shot.

A win would have taken Hull into the top four. Their strong start has been built on a solid defence and Everton’s double were the first home goals they have conceded this season.

Still, City fans will be delighted with their side’s start to the season. Last season’s Championship play-off winners are now up to nine points from six Premier League games thanks to two wins and three draws.

Barry misses and offside goal frustrate Everton

Similarly, Everton are in good form and have now avoided defeat in their opening six league matches for the first time since 2013-14. In that season, they finished fifth under Roberto Martinez.

A point at Hull puts The Toffees in fifth and only outside of a Champions League spot on goal difference.

Everton were narrowly the better side and created several good opportunities. They thought they had scored in the first half only for Brennan Johnson’s effort to be ruled out, with the Wales forward offside when steering the ball in after Harrison Armstrong’s shot had been cleared off the line.

Barry also had several chances before his eventual goal, having a close-range header saved and failing to connect to a pass across goal when three yards out and the scores level at 1-1.

Everton were playing their first match since it was revealed their owners The Friedkin Group (TFG) are exploring the sale of the club.
