[TRENDING VIDEO] Netizens react to petrol tanker fire near Benin kills at least four, injures 11

A petrol tanker overturned near Oluku Market on the Benin-Lagos highway on Thursday, spilling fuel that residents rushed to collect as petrol prices remained high.

The fuel ignited at about 1 p.m., setting shops and vehicles ablaze. Witnesses reported at least four deaths, including a soldier, and said 11 people with severe burns were taken to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital.

The incident followed a tanker crash in Lagos the previous day, where residents gathered to scoop spilled cooking oil. Authorities stopped them over concerns that the oil had been contaminated.

The two incidents highlight the dangers of tanker crashes and the risks people face when collecting spilled cargo from busy roads.

Bhee @OlaniyanAb95458: Are we cursed with poor thinking in this country?

ITORO 🥶 @Richard12328495: None of them suppose survive. Ogun kee them again atleast they all had time to clear the area.

EMERALD @state1646: Poverty can make people take risks they would never take under normal circumstances. No one should have to risk their life to survive

FM FOREX @FelixMaker2: Poverty is a disease you no longer think straight or value your life. I remember when I first saw a tanker of fuel fall na run with speed I they run I no wan enter taxi self make I leave the location

Amadi Collins Echika @amadi_echika: Why blame poverty when some people are just being stupid. There might be victims of the later explosion, RIP to them. But, these scoopers, they allowed themselves to be victims of their stupidity.

psrolla @psrolla_: Same pattern every time. People just don’t learn

KNG D4V1Dâ™  @ArcDavidC: Normally we no dey learn for this country.. e go still happen again

George @Geerossy7: I can’t feel pity for such fools, how can you even take yourself close to such and not run away from that place after seeing tankers on the ground…. Pure stupidity.

HalfnHalf🇳🇬🇨🇦 @bunnawty: Wait a minute! did I just see a generator?

ThaKel @EmmanuelKe19526: Nigerian are so poor that even common sense is no longer with them. Fallen tankers has killed many yet they still scoop petrol each time it falls and guess what? People always get killed and the circle keep repeating. That high level of poverty;mental poverty too

joy @olamiiposi: Now they will blame it on poverty. Not their greediness. They heard it every time that when tank falls it later leads to explosion but they still went ahead to quench their thirst for greed. May the innocent rest in peace

Ehikaro @Ehikaro12: Both the pumpee and the pumper, the onlookers all gone

BADMANNASTY @badmannasty: See as people dey scoop fuel like say na free pure water. Tomorrow now dem go sell am 1500 per litre for same Oluku. We no dey value life.
