JAMB reopens NIN alignment service, warns candidates against errors

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has reopened its National Identification Number (NIN) alignment service, allowing eligible candidates another opportunity to resolve discrepancies between their examination records and data held by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).

The board announced the development on Friday through its official X account, @jamb_hq, noting that the service was available to candidates seeking to reconcile differences in their personal information.

However, JAMB cautioned that the reopening represented a one-time opportunity and stressed that submitting an application did not guarantee approval.

The examination body advised candidates to correct any errors in their NIN records through NIMC before applying for alignment with their JAMB biodata.

It also urged applicants to carefully review their information and select all necessary corrections in a single submission to minimise mistakes that could affect their applications.

The discrepancies may involve names, dates of birth and other personal details, depending on the corrections required and the fields permitted under the alignment process.

According to JAMB, the application procedure, eligible fields for correction, verification process and other requirements are outlined in a special episode of JAMB Explained, a video guide released alongside the announcement.

Candidates were encouraged to watch the guide and follow the prescribed steps before submitting their applications.

The board further warned against incomplete submissions and rushed applications, noting that all requests would be subjected to verification and approval.

Applicants were also advised to rely on JAMB’s official website and verified communication channels for accurate information about the service.

The reopening is intended to help ensure consistency between candidates’ personal records maintained by JAMB and NIMC, which are used during the tertiary admission process.

Candidates with discrepancies in their records should first request the necessary corrections through NIMC and confirm that the updated information reflects on their NIN records before proceeding with JAMB.

They should also prepare supporting documents that correspond with the corrected information, where required.

The detailed application procedure, including the approved submission channel, eligible fields, verification requirements and any applicable fees, should be confirmed through JAMB’s official announcement and accompanying video guide.

Candidates can consult JAMB’s official website and e-Facility portal for official information.

Applicants are reminded that the service is a one-time opportunity and that approval is not automatic. They should therefore verify every detail before submitting their requests and wait for official confirmation of the outcome.
