Reality TV star Tacha Akide has urged the organisers of Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) to suspend the show temporarily and rethink their approach to make it more attractive to audiences.
Speaking in an interview with Arise TV, Tacha said the reality show needs to evolve in response to changes in the entertainment industry, especially the increasing influence of social media.
“I think they need to take a break, restrategise and just come up with something because we are really at an era where everything happens on social media,” she said.
“You don’t want us watching housemates in the house, meanwhile P-Square is giving us part seven of his family issues… we have come to a point where everyone is so comfortable with social media right now.”
Akide said the show’s popularity during its earlier seasons was partly shaped by a different social media landscape, adding that the organisers need to introduce more engaging concepts to retain viewers’ interest.
“At the time when the show was really hitting, it was different, and now it’s different. Social media wasn’t what it was then,” she said.
“They need to try to do something different which would be much more mind-blowing and more interesting to Nigerians because Nigerians are hard to please.”
