Troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation Fansan Yamma, have killed three suspected terrorists during a gun battle in Kaduna State and recovered stolen livestock from suspected cattle rustlers in Kano State.
The military also recovered an AK-47 rifle, a magazine, three rounds of ammunition and a motorcycle following the encounter in Kaduna.
The operations took place between October 29 and 30 in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State and Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State.
The Acting Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Captain Tamuno Sinivie, confirmed the developments in a statement released on Friday.
According to Sinivie, troops operating under Sector 1 came under attack from armed men on October 29 while carrying out a patrol along the Shadow–Old Kuyello Road in Birnin Gwari.
The soldiers reportedly engaged the attackers, forcing them to retreat before pursuing them into the surrounding area.
He said, “Subsequent pursuit and exploitation of the area led to the neutralisation of three terrorists and the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, one AK-47 magazine, three rounds of ammunition and one motorcycle,” he said.
The military spokesperson added that none of the soldiers sustained casualties during the confrontation.
In another operation the following day, troops recovered 28 cows and 13 sheep in Shanono town, Kano State, during a routine security patrol.
Sinivie explained that the suspected cattle rustlers abandoned the animals and escaped after noticing the approaching soldiers.
He said arrangements were being made to transfer the recovered livestock to the relevant authorities for further action.
The task force reiterated its determination to continue operations against terrorist groups and other criminal networks operating across the North-West.
It also appealed to residents to cooperate with security agencies by sharing credible and timely intelligence that could help identify criminal hideouts, prevent attacks and improve security across the region.
