Rapper Oladipupo Olabode Oladimeji, popularly known as Oladips, has shared details of his detention by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over what he described as “unpaid taxes.”
In an interview with Hip TV, the 30-year-old artiste revealed that the incident took place in November 2024, when EFCC operatives carried out a late-night raid on his residential estate.
According to Oladips, the officers arrived around 3 a.m., targeting several residents suspected of internet fraud. He, however, clarified that his arrest was unrelated to any cybercrime activity.
“Nigeria just happened to me,” Oladips said. “It was a normal night, and they entered my estate, going from house to house. They came to my house as well. It was like 3 a.m. I knew they were inside the compound, but I don’t do fraud.”
He recounted being startled by the intrusion and stressed his innocence.
“I was on my bed, pressing my phone, because that’s none of my business — a person who does fraud would be the one running,” he continued.
“The next thing, I heard a loud noise from downstairs. They broke my kitchen door, entered my house, and were like, ‘Hey, hey, where’s your phone?’”
The rapper said the officers confiscated his two phones and took him into custody.
After a search of his devices turned up no incriminating evidence, Oladips claimed the EFCC shifted focus, accusing him of tax evasion.
“They didn’t find anything on my phone,” he said. “Then one of their superiors asked if I pay tax. So, they just held me for that.”
Oladips further alleged that he was detained for five days and that the EFCC collected millions of naira from him before releasing him.
The EFCC has yet to issue an official response to the rapper’s claims.
Oladips made headlines in November 2023 when his management announced his death, only for him to resurface days later with the release of his debut studio album, “Superhero Adugbo.”
His personal assistant, Abdulrasheed Opeyemi, had also stirred controversy by claiming the rapper “died and resurrected three days later.”
