Nigerian rapper YCee has responded to the backlash surrounding his controversial remarks about what he described as the rise of “brain-rot” content in Nigeria, which he referred to as an “olodo uprising.”
The singer had sparked mixed reactions after citing popular TikToker Peller as an example while criticising what he sees as the growing preference for mindless entertainment over educational content among Nigerians.
Some critics faulted YCee for mentioning Peller by name, arguing that he could have expressed his views without singling out the content creator.
However, reacting in a recent interview with Cool FM Lagos, YCee said he doesn’t owe anyone an apology for using Peller as an example in butressing buttressing.
He said, “Some people are saying I shouldn’t have called Peller’s name, but I said what I said. If you feel offended, you should check yourself. A lot of people are also taking what I said out of context. The olodo uprising is even worse than I thought because there are so many people coming out to defend it.
“My call is to people that are tired of brain-rot contents. There is no reason why intelligent people cannot be streamers or content creators.”
