The Bauchi State Police Command has directed a discreet and comprehensive investigation into a complaint by Corporal Yusuf Aliyu regarding his alleged inability to access his salary for nearly two years.
Aliyu, identified by Police Force Number 524180, reportedly announced his resignation on social media, claiming that he had been unable to access his salary and had consequently decided to quit the Nigeria Police Force.
In the social media post, the corporal was said to have explained that he could no longer continue in service under conditions where his salary had allegedly remained inaccessible for such an extended period.
However, in a statement issued on Thursday, September 3, 2026, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, said preliminary findings showed that the officer’s salary had been paid regularly by the police authorities.
The Command attributed the problem to what it described as a discrepancy in Aliyu’s Bank Verification Number, BVN.
According to the statement, “the name linked to the BVN differs entirely from the name on his salary account, thereby resulting in the restriction.”
The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, ordered the investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the restriction on the officer’s bank account.
The Command also criticised the officer for taking his grievance to social media instead of using the established internal mechanisms for resolving complaints.
It said, “The Command notes with concern that the officer resorted to the use of social media to ventilate his grievance and announce a purported resignation, rather than exploiting the established internal mechanisms for redress.”
The Police described the action as a violation of the Nigeria Police Force Social Media Policy and an attempt to discredit the Command and the Force.
The Commissioner, however, reassured officers and men of the Command that their welfare remained a priority.
“No genuine complaint will be left unattended,” the CP said, while directing personnel to channel grievances through the appropriate administrative procedures.
The Command said it remained committed to discipline, professionalism and the welfare of its personnel.
