  • Man murders his two nieces in Ogun

Man murders his two nieces in Ogun

Taye Agbaje, a man, is accused of murdering his younger brother’s two children in a jungle in Abeokuta, the state’s capital.

According to reports, Taye went to his brother’s home in Kemta Abata, Abeokuta, on August 6, stole two girls on his bike, and then slaughtered them with a cutlass.

Additionally, it was heard that Idowu Agbaje, the father of the children, who wasn’t home when Taye arrived to pick them up, began looking for them when he got home later that day.

He informed the locals when they reported seeing the two girls riding his brother’s motorcycle during the day.

Residents of Kemta Abata expressed outrage at the occurrence and noted that the culprit did not reside there.
Agbaje said in a widely shared video that he macheted the bodies of the two girls, Promise, age nine, and Testimony, her younger sister, age seven, inside a bush.

When questioned in the video, Agbaje denied killing the children for money rituals, but he was unable to explain why their private parts were also gone and were not even visible at the crime site.

“Taye denied knowing the whereabouts of the females when he was questioned about them. Community members claimed to have seen him transporting the girls, but he claimed to have simply taken them to the market.’’

“He was taken to Kemta police division, where he later confessed to have killed his nieces. Taye took the police to the bush where he slit his nieces throats and left the bodies.

“We all saw the bodies where he killed them. Police have evacuated the corpses to the mortuary. Taye did not give any particular reason for his action, he only said the mother of the kids had spiritually taken his glory for her husband. This is very shocking,” someone in the community said.

Omolola Odutola, the public relations officer for the Ogun State Police, acknowledged the occurrence and called it puzzling.

Odutola said that while the suspect was being questioned by the police, he displayed no remorse and kept attributing the crime to Satan.

“The suspect gave no specific justification for killing his brother’s children. There was no indication of regret at all. He is merely blaming Satan, and the law does not allow for it, according to Odutola.

Boko Haram vows to recapture territories taken by troops

Boko Haram has pledged to retake the areas that Nigerian forces have liberated.

Zagazola Makama, a security analyst and counter-insurgency specialist in the Lake Chad region, revealed this yesterday in a video posted on X, formerly known as Twitter.

The Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), which they referred to as the “Yan Red Cross,” was also threatened with attack by the militants, who claimed that CJTF was working with the military to attack them in their enclaves.

The terrorists were armed, and one of them said in Hausa: “We are here to announce loud and clear that we are completely back to retake all the lands we lost to infidels.

“For you, Red Cross, you are elated because they gave arms to you; let it be known to you that you cannot win against Islam. We depend on the power of Allah and by his might, we will conquer.”

In a related event, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, has denounced the deaths of two people that occurred during a bandit attack on Saturday night in the Kofar Gayan neighborhood of Zaria, Kaduna State.

According to reports, the bandits who entered the region shot two people dead and tried unsuccessfully to capture others.

Abbas, who is the federal representative for Zaria, demanded a thorough inquiry into the heinous act to identify those responsible.

Additionally, the Federal Government has been urged by Democracy Watch Initiative (DWI) to impose a state of emergency in Zamfara State in order to stop the kidnapping and killings there.

Despite expressing interest in good governance throughout the North, the coalition of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) bemoaned the worrying deterioration of the security situation in Zamfara over the past two months.

The Coordinator of DWI and its allies, Muhammad Sanusi, expressed regret in a statement issued yesterday in Kaduna that despite the previous administration’s efforts to reduce insecurity in the state, the situation had been steadily getting worse and that the state capital, Gusau, was already on the verge of being completely overrun by bandits.

He stated: “We note that since June this year, the audacious regularity of acts of violence by bandits, who operate freely, increased with horrifying instances of women and children being raped, communities displaced, people kidnapped for ransom, citizens denied access to farmlands and many others brutalised, traumatised and killed daily.”

Rivers Governor cautions kings, leaders not to undermine his regime

The governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara has issued a warning to several monarchs, opinion leaders, and stakeholders in the state, urging them to halt any acts that would undermine the administration’s efforts to deliver excellent projects or make them responsible.

Fubara specifically cautioned the leaders and residents of the state’s Ogba/Egbema Ndoni Local Government Area (ONELGA) not to interfere with the Omoku-Egbema Road’s ongoing reconstruction or they would suffer serious repercussions.

The governor said it was unpleasant to hear threats of disruptions on the project from beneficiary communities while speaking to monarchs, opinion leaders, and other significant stakeholders from ONELGA yesterday at Government House in Port Harcourt.

Fubara warned people not to use his composure to carry out actions against government projects and programs, according to a statement from Boniface Onyedi, the senior special assistant to the governor for media. Fubara expressed regret that the contractor leaders from the area recommended for the job failed to complete the project after receiving N12.7 billion.

Fubara said: “When a group of people, irrespective of whatever prefix you attach to yourself, tend to threaten government, we need to call you to order. Maybe you don’t understand the powers of state government.

“I have the power to dethrone. And I don’t need any letter. But what is important with power is how you use it. I feel very bitter, seeing some persons, because of my calmness, are feeling they can take me for granted. If after this time, anything happens again, you will not believe what I will do to those connected to it.”

The governor stated that he has got hint of moves in the area to disrupt the project already rearward and N5.2 billion committed, adding that the people cannot decide what that government does on the project.

“I got report of plan to stop the contractor. I got a protest letter from Ogba Egbema Peoples Forum, another from a legal firm, demanding that the Omoku-Egbema Section of the road project be withdrawn from SETRACO and given to Julius Berger. I start wondering who gave such persons such power, to be so commanding?

“I don’t expect this from you. This project was approved for you people’s benefit. You nominated a contractor. The contractor failed. Now we re-awarded and paying another money.

“Original cost of that job when it was awarded was N8.8Billion. It was reviewed to N13.3Billion. Total amount released at that time before the revocation was N12.7Billion, so you understand how we feel about this.

“Now we have re-awarded this job to SETRACO for N7.5Billion and we have already committed about N5.2Billion to show you our commitment. SETRACO is not a pushover company. To make my position clear, SETRACO will continue with this job. I expect you to give necessary support and cooperation and you have a clean road.

“If you like to sabotage yourselves, don’t sabotage my own administration. I’m calm but I will do you something you would not like. Every time shouldn’t be protest, condemnation or complaints. It gets to a time everyone comes together for progress of their community,” he added.

The governor was informed by the Oba of Ogba Land, His Eminence, King Nwachukwu Obuohna Obi, Eze Ogba III, who was in charge of the stakeholders, that poor engagement and communication between the company and the communities was to blame for the protests against the project.

Budapest: Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan not cleared of doping – World Athletics

Tobi Amusan was reportedly cleared of doping and given permission to defend her title in the next World Athletics Championship in Budapest, Hungary, however this has been denied by the World Athletics.

Tobi’s participation in the future competition, which is scheduled to take place from August 19 to August 27, 2023, was previously barred by the Athletics Federation of Nigeria due to a doping probe. However, the organization later said that Tobi has been cleared.

However, the world’s athletics governing body claimed in a statement issued on Sunday that it had not approved the Nigerian star for the race.

Nicole Jeffery, World Athletics’ Head of Communications, said in a statement, “Please be advised, reports that say Tobi Amusan has been cleared to compete in Budapest are wrong.”

“No decision has been made in this case yet. When a decision is made, it will be announced by the Athletics Integrity Unit.”

Remember that the 26-year-old Nigerian was listed by World Athletics on the entry list for the Budapest Championships that was released last week, but it was noted that her participation would rely on the outcome of the whereabouts failure accusation that the AIU preferred against her.

The AIU has stated that a choice will be taken on the subject prior to the start of the World Championships.
