Access Holdings board chairman, Osunkoya passes away

The Board of Directors of Access Holdings Plc has announced the death of its Chairman, Bababode Osunkoya.

This information is outlined in a statement released by Sunday Ekwochi, the Company Secretary of Access Holdings Plc, on the night of Thursday, November 23, 2023.

In the statement, Ekwochi conveyed that Osunkoya passed away on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, following a short illness. He further mentioned that the financial institution’s board will soon reveal his successor.

The communication, undersigned by the Company Secretary, Sunday Ekwochi, stated, “Consequent upon the tragic event, the company now has a nine-member board comprising of six non-executive directors (two of whom are independent) and three executive Directors inclusive of the group chief executive officer.”

During his tenure as the chairman of the board at the holdings, the bank reported significant profits, with key metrics showing positive trends.

Beyond his role at Access Holdings Plc, he also serves on the boards of Richardson Oil & Gas Limited, Haggai Mortgage Bank Limited, Freedom Foundation (Nigeria), and Guiding Light Assembly. Additionally, he holds an Associate Membership at the Institute of Directors and is a Senior Partner at Abax-Oosa Professionals.

Previously, Mr. Osunkoya served as a Partner at Bababode Osunkoya & Co., Manager at Abacus Merchant Bank, and Assistant Audit Manager at HLB Z. O. Ososanya & Co.

Mr. Bababode Osunkoya brings over two decades of post-qualification experience in banking, audit, accountancy, taxation, business, and financial advisory to his role as Senior Partner at the chartered accounting firm of Abax-OOSA Professionals.

Mr. Osunkoya holds a degree in accounting from the University of Lagos and stands as one of the pioneering Certified Forensic Auditors recognized by the Chartered Institute of Accountants of Nigeria. Additionally, he is recognized as a Fellow of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN).
