Aliko Dangote has confirmed that the Dangote Petroleum Refinery has enough petrol in storage to meet Nigeria’s demand.

Speaking over the weekend after Zambia’s Minister of Energy, Makozo Chikote, toured the refinery, Dangote revealed that the facility holds over half a billion litres of refined petroleum products and more than ₦600 billion worth of fuel.

“As we speak right now, we have more than half a billion litres. The refinery is producing enough refined products, like petrol, diesel, and kerosene, to meet 100 per cent of Nigeria’s requirements,” he said.

He also highlighted the refinery’s role in supporting the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) by facilitating trade with other African nations.

Zambia Seeks Energy Partnerships

Chikote, who led a delegation to explore energy collaborations with Dangote, praised the refinery’s capacity and its potential benefits for Africa.

“In Zambia, we have created an environment for private sector participation in the energy sector. Your presentation offers an immediate solution to our energy needs,” Chikote said.

He added that Zambia is eager to increase productivity in mining, agriculture, and other industries, and welcomed Dangote’s involvement in fostering competition and ensuring efficient, reliable, and competitive products.

Touring Africa’s Largest Refinery

The Zambian delegation toured key facilities, including the Single Point Mooring, Dangote Jetty, Africa’s largest fertiliser plant, and the 650,000-barrels-per-day refinery, described as the world’s largest single-train refinery.

“We have seen that Africa can learn from what Dangote has achieved, allowing the continent to stand on its own without relying on overseas support,” Chikote added.
