The Federal Government has announced plans to review the merger of federal technical colleges and science schools to separate them.

Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, revealed this during a one-day stakeholders’ meeting addressing the challenges and issues facing technical colleges in the country.

Mamman expressed dissatisfaction with the merger of technical colleges with science colleges, stating that it undermines the original purpose of establishing technical colleges nationwide.

He clarified that technical colleges should cater exclusively to students interested in technical education, while those pursuing science programs should attend regular colleges.

Mamman stressed that merging the two types of schools was a mistake.

He also highlighted the issue of low student enrollment in technical colleges, emphasizing that these institutions are meant to impart skills crucial for national development.
