The Nigerian film industry has been thrown into mourning following the death of Nollywood actress Temitope Osoba.

Her death was announced on Wednesday by actor Alesh Sanni, prompting an outpouring of tributes from colleagues, fans and other members of the entertainment industry.

Osoba died nearly a year after she made an emotional return to the public following her recovery from breast cancer, describing her experience as a journey of “rebranding, reshaping and rebuilding.”

1. She was born and raised in Lagos

Temitope Osoba was born and raised in Lagos State.

2. She studied at OOU

She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Education from Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ogun State.

3. She started her acting career in 2005

Osoba began her Nollywood journey around 2005. In interviews, she revealed that her entry into the industry was unexpected.

4. She gained recognition through Oogun Mi

Her breakthrough came after she featured in Oogun Mi, a Yoruba-language movie produced by actress Dayo Amusa.

5. She established herself in Yoruba Nollywood

Osoba became a recognisable face in Yoruba-language films, appearing in numerous productions throughout her nearly two-decade career.

6. She appeared in several popular movies

Among the films she featured in are Gucci Girls, Igboro Ti Daru, Omo Tee and Twinny Mi.

7. She was also a film producer

In addition to acting, Osoba ventured into film production and produced a movie titled Single Ladies.

8. She survived breast cancer

Osoba had previously spoken publicly about her battle with breast cancer and sought support from the public during her treatment.

Several Nollywood personalities, including Iyabo Ojo, also appealed for assistance on her behalf during her illness.

On August 4, 2025, Osoba shared an emotional video on Instagram announcing her return to the movie industry after surviving cancer.

Reflecting on her experience, she wrote, “Dear beloved fans, supporters, and loved ones, I’m Temitope Osoba, and after my cancer experience, I’m excited to announce my reintroduction. This journey has been a turning point, leading to my rebranding, reshaping, and rebuilding. I’m emerging stronger, more resilient, and more passionate about sharing my story and inspiring others.”

She explained that her new chapter would centre on healing, personal growth and cancer awareness, while expressing appreciation to her supporters and management team.

10. She became an advocate for cancer awareness

Following her recovery, Osoba openly discussed her cancer journey and drew attention to the financial difficulties faced by many actors dealing with serious illnesses.

She also expressed her intention to use her platform to promote cancer awareness and encourage people going through similar experiences.

As of the time of filing the report, the cause of her death had not been disclosed.
