Talent manager Paulo Okoye has stated his concerns about the current situation of Afrobeats, claiming that the genre is on the decline.
Only a small percentage of artists are currently making money, he pointed out, and three years ago, every artist was doing better than they are now.
Paulo emphasised that this is a factual observation and that the number of financially successful Afrobeats artists he can count on one hand is small.
He added that there are very few financial options for Afrobeats locally, which is having an impact on both the genre’s worldwide appeal and local presence.
He wrote:
“Afrobeats is going through a lot lately!! Every Afrobeat artist was doing way better 3 years ago compared to today!!
Only a few are making money at the moment, and that’s a fact!!
can count on my one hand the Afrobeat artists who are making money Now!!
Globally things are falling apart for Afrobeats.
Locally, it’s even worse: no money anywhere. Our bright stars will continue to shine and the world will continue to recognize our greatness.
Afrobeat is going through a lot lately”.
