American rapper, Rod Wave apprehended for possession of firearm

American rapper Rod Wave has been apprehended on allegations of possession of a firearm.

He was arrested on Wednesday in Manatee County, Florida, according to official arrest documents.

In a press conference following the arrest, the St. Petersburg Police Department asserted that Rod Wave was connected to a Florida shooting involving gang activity. Four bystanders were hurt in an incident that happened outside the Sonic Sports Bar in St. Petersburg.

Three of the suspects, named as Christopher Atkins, Keith Westby, and Kevontre Wesby, were captured on Sunday, March 31. According to St. Petersburg Police Chief Mike Kovacsev, these individuals are purported members of the “Young Gangsters” gang. Two other people are also being held awaiting arrest at this time.

On the other hand, Rod Wave’s attorneys, Bradford Cohen and Mark Rankin, contend that the rapper was wrongfully taken into custody and arrested without any proof of misconduct.

The rapper’s lawyers made it clear in an official statement shared on Instagram that he did not have a gun when he was arrested.

In related news, six people have been detained in connection with the death of South African musician AKA.

Recall that the 33-year-old musician, whose real name is Kiernan Forbes, and his friend were shot and killed in February 2023 outside of a restaurant in the seaside city of Durban.

AKA and his best friend, Tebello ‘Tibz’ Motshoane, were killed at close range by two armed guys while walking to their car.

However, during a press briefing on Tuesday night, KwaZulu-Natal provincial police commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi stated that the accused will appear in court on Thursday.

In a viral video, Mkhwanazi, a lieutenant-general, revealed how the culprits were apprehended and their roles in the rapper’s death.
