Controversial disc jockey and TikTok personality Ademola Abiodun, widely known as DJ Chicken, appeared before an Ogba Magistrate’s Court in Lagos on Friday over allegations that he threatened the life of Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Tinubu.

He was brought before Magistrate M.F. Onamusi on a three-count charge involving an alleged death threat, conduct capable of causing a breach of the peace, and offences under the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015.

The charges followed a video DJ Chicken shared on his social media platforms while discussing the 2027 presidential election.

In the viral clip, he said in Yoruba: “Tinubu, you can’t win the election. If you win, I will kill Seyi Tinubu. I won’t say more than that.”

Although he later retracted the statement, the Lagos State Government went ahead with the prosecution.

According to the first charge, the defendant allegedly uploaded a video containing a threat to kill Seyi Tinubu on his social media accounts, an offence said to contravene Section 232 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The second charge accuses him of sending a grossly offensive and menacing message through a computer network, contrary to Section 24 of the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015.

The third count alleges that his actions were likely to incite a breach of the peace and were intended to intimidate or embarrass Seyi Tinubu, contrary to Section 168(d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

DJ Chicken pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

Magistrate Onamusi granted him bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in the same amount. However, the court ordered that he be remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre until the bail conditions are met.

The case was adjourned to August 3, 2026, for further hearing.

His lawyer, Rotimi Stephen, confirmed that bail had been granted and expressed optimism that the social media personality would regain his freedom on Monday.

Speaking in a video shared on his Instagram page on Friday, Stephen said, “Update on DJ Chicken’s case. This morning he was arraigned to court—the Magistrate Court at Ogba. And well, we applied for his bail. Although it was very, very tough. The other party, they do not want him to be on bail because of who this case is against.

“But thankfully, the court applied Section 115 Sub 2 of the ACJL, and he was eventually granted bail. Well, he’s not out yet because we are not done with the bail condition, nor perfected his bail condition. But by Monday, we should be able to do that and he will be out.”

Stephen also thanked those who turned up in court to support his client, noting that many people attended the proceedings in solidarity.
